The Seattle University cross country program continues to show its excellence in the classroom, as both the men’s and women’s cross country teams received the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team Award, announced earlier this month by the national organization.
The men’s cross country team tied for the 11th-highest cumulative grade point average among the 179 Division I squads that received the award at 3.52. The Redhawks finished with the highest GPA in the Western Athletic Conference, as they were one of four WAC programs (New Mexico State, UMKC, Utah Valley) to earn the academic award.
Among the 226 women’s cross country teams to be honored, the Seattle U women tied for the 36th-highest GPA after the recent fall quarter at 3.61. Just as with the men, the women’s teams from New Mexico State, UMKC, and Utah Valley joined Seattle U as WAC programs to receive the award.
The Seattle University women’s cross country team won the 2014 Western Athletic Conference Championship last November in McAllen, Texas, while the men finished in fourth place. Both teams competed in the NCAA Regional meet and had a cumulative grade point average after the fall quarter of at least 3.0, making them eligible for these awards.
