Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah), who was recently drafted by the NWSL’s Boston Breakers, has been selected to the U.S. U-23 Women’s National Team for a trip to La Manga, Spain from Feb. 21-Mar. 3.

While in Spain, the team is set to play three matches versus Japan (Feb. 26), Norway (Feb. 28), and England (Mar. 2). The friendly tournament also features China PR and Sweden.

The 22-player team features 14 professional players, 13 of which were drafted in the recent 2015 NWSL Draft, including Verdoia.

Verdoia concluded her Seattle U career in fall 2014 as one of the most decorated and accomplished Redhawks in the women’s soccer program’s history. She received both the prestigious Senior CLASS Award as well as the Capital One Academic All-American of the Year Award, both for Division I women’s soccer, during her senior campaign. Among other accolades, she finished her Seattle U career as the program leader in goals and points and was named Female Sports Star of the Year at the Seattle Sports Commission’s 2015 MTR Western Seattle Sports Star of the Year Awards in January.

The Redhawks open their spring season on Friday, Mar. 13 at home vs. the Seattle Reign FC at 7pm and will conclude the spring season on Saturday, May 2 with their annual Alumni Game at 2pm. Stay tuned to GoSeattleU.com this spring for the release of the team’s 2015 fall competition schedule.
