Seattle U Makes First Trip of Season to Golden State: After opening the season with weekends in Tempe, Ariz. and Las Vegas, Seattle University softball travels to California for the first of two straight weekends. This weekend, the Redhawks will face Santa Clara, Idaho State, and a repeat opponent in San Jose State, who they faced on weekend one at Kajikawa. The Redhawks travel south for the third of four straight weekends before returning to Seattle for UW’s Spring Classic (Mar. 6-8). SU hosts their first home games vs. Notre Dame de Namur (Mar. 11) and Texas Tech (Mar. 18) in mid-March. Seattle U will open their third WAC season in Phoenix on the home field of the 2014 Regular Season Champions, Grand Canyon, on Mar. 27-28.

Santa Clara History: Last season at the Santa Clara Marriott Invitational (Feb. 28-Mar. 2, 2014), the Redhawks went 5-0 with two wins over Boston University (17-11 on Feb. 28 and 4-1 on Mar. 1), a pair of wins over Santa Clara (7-3 on Mar. 1 and 13-11 on Mar. 2), and a win over UC Davis (7-6 on Mar. 2).

Bubba Morrow Nearing Seattle U Career Doubles Record: Morrow moved up to tied for second on Seattle U’s all-time career records list for doubles (30 as of 2/17) this past weekend and is two away from tying Allegra Wilde’s top spot (32).

Scouting Santa Clara (2-9): Santa Clara picked up a season-opening win at Grand Canyon vs. Northern Colorado on Feb. 6, a 10-2 6-inning win before earning their second win of the season on Feb. 14 vs. Sacramento State, 4-3, in eight innings. Among batters who have more than five at bats, Cassandra Padilla leads the team with a .414 avg, eight runs, 12 hits, two doubles, two home runs, and six RBI. In the circle, among batters who have pitched more than 3.0 innings, Ciara Gonzales leads with a 3.54 ERA, a 2-3 record, two complete games, and 10 strikeouts in 29.2 innings pitched.

Scouting Idaho State (3-7): Idaho State earned a 8-7 eight-inning win on Feb. 7 at Long Beach State on opening weekend and earned two more wins over Mississippi Valley (Feb. 13, 14) last weekend, a 6-0 win on Feb. 13 and a 16-0 win on Feb. 14. Kacie Burnett leads the Bengals at the plate with a .481 avg, 11 runs, 13 hits, one double, one home run, and six RBI while, in the circle, Sophie Slagle has a team-high 4.21 ERA, three complete games, and 15 strikeouts in 33.1 innings pitched.

Scouting San Jose State (8-3): The Spartans have won four contests on each of two opening weekends, including a 14-6 five-inning win over the Redhawks on Feb. 6 at the Kajikawa Classic. SJSU also picked up wins over BYU, Utah Valley, and Portland State on opening weekend as well as Drake, Wright State, Loyola Chicago, and Loyola Marymount last weekend. Jessie Hufstetler, among batters who have had more than 10 at bats, leads the Spartans at the plate with 13 runs on 18 hits as well as four doubles, fiveh ome runs, and 24 RBI. Among pitchers of record, Berlyn Rippentrop leads SJSU with 2.45 ERA, a 1-0 record, and a .267 batting average against.
