After a strong finish to the second round, Seattle University used that momentum to post another low score in Tuesday’s third round, finishing second at the Folino Invitational hosted by Cal State Fullerton at the Industry Hills Golf Club.

Shane Wathanasaynee (Los Alamitos, Calif.) ended the tournament in a tie for sixth place, starting the day with pars on the final holes of his second round to finish at one under par 71. He then shot 75 (+3) in the third round, collecting birdies on two of his final four holes to complete the tournament at 220 (+4).

Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) completed his second round at even-par 72, and then earned four birdies in the final round as he shot 73 (+1) to move up into eighth place in the final standings at 221 (+5). Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) finished a second round 76 (+4) before earning two birdies during a final round 75 (+3) to end up in 26th place at 229 (+13).

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) shot 79 (+7) in the second round and got off to a tough start in the final circuit, but four birdies over his final six holes allowed Cornett to post a final round score of 74 (+2) and a three-round total of 233 (+17). Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) finished the second round with a 77 (+5) and then shot 79 (+7) in the final round to finish tied with Cornett and two other golfers for 37th place at 233 (+17).

As a team, Seattle U combined for a second-round score of 296 (+8), the second-best team score of the round to move up from sixth place to third after 36 holes. The Redhawks shot 297 (+9) in the final round for a cumulative total of 898 (+34), climbing into second place in the final standings. Sacramento State ran away with the team title with a 54-hole total of 875 (+11), paced by Taylor Knoll and Aaron Beverly, who tied for medalist honors with Ty Travis of Boise State at 215 (-1).

The Seattle University men’s golf team will have some time away from competition before heading to Sacramento, Calif., for the Sacramento State Invitational at Valley Hi Country Club March 9-10.
