After earning her best finish as a collegiate golfer last week at the Matador Invitational, sophomore Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) has been named the Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com.
Huo opened the tournament hosted by Cal State Northridge with a first-round score of 78 (+6), but improved by nine strokes in the second round with a score of 69 (-3) to move into a tie for the lead. That score would prove to be the only one under 70 shot by any of the 48 participants. She shot 80 (+8) in the final round on a day in which the average score was 83.25, ending the tournament in a tie for second place at 227 (+11).
The second-round 69 was Huo’s best round so far in her Seattle U career, and the 54-hole total of 227 was her lowest mark since joining the Redhawk program. Huo’s previous best finish was a tie for ninth place at the Lamkin Grip Cal Poly Invitational Oct. 28-29, 2013. She has cut two strokes off her scoring average from last year, going from a stroke average of 79.2 as a freshman to a current average of 77.2 this season.
Thanks to a stellar fall quarter grade point average of 3.667, Huo’s cumulative GPA is now 3.063. She is majoring in biology within the College of Science and Engineering, and she has participated with the golf team in service projects assisting Habitat for Humanity.
