“It was good to see Kayla back and hitting with the power we know she is capable of, with two bombs in our win against Bradley,” said head coach Dan Powers. “We look forward to seeing what she can do this season.”
Starting all five games at left field at Arizona State’s Kajikawa Classic to open the season, Shuster-Gonzales recorded four runs on three hits as well as four RBI over the weekend. In the team’s 11-3 five-inning win over Bradley on Feb. 7, she hit a pair of home runs, driving in a team-high four RBI, with a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate.
Shuster-Gonzales also excels academically with a 3.568 cumulative GPA as a psychology major. In 2014, she was also named Academic All-WAC and to the NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
The Redhawks head to UNLV’s Wilson-Demarini Desert Classic this weekend (Feb. 13-15) to face University of Nevada-Reno, Utah, Boise State, New Mexico, and Hawaii.
