Despite difficult scoring conditions, sophomore Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) was able to stay in a tie for second place in the final individual standings, enabling the Seattle University women’s golf team to maintain its sixth-place standing Tuesday at the Matador Invitational, hosted by CSUN at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
On a day in which only eight of the 48 competitors were able to break 80, Huo shot 80 (+8) in the third round to finish in a tie for second place at 227 (+11). Huo tied for the tournament lead in par-three scoring (-1), finished in a tie for third place among the players in par-five scoring (-1), and collected the fifth-most pars during the course of the tournament with 33.
Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) was tied for third in the field with seven birdies as she ended up in a tie for 20th place at 240 (+24) after shooting 82 (+10) in the final round. Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) shot 84 (+12) to finish in a tie for 29th place at 246 (+30).
Despite being tied for the lowest score on par three holes at one under par, Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) ended up in 34th place with a three-round total of 249 (+33) after shooting 85 (+13) in the final round. Monica Keo (Kanehoe, Hawaii) posted a third-round score of 90 (+18) for a cumulative total of 251 (+35), finishing in a tie for 38th place.
As a team, the Redhawks shot 331 (+43) in the final round to remain in sixth place with a cumulative score of 953 (+89). Sacramento State completed a wire-to-wire victory with a 54-hole total of 929 (+65) to finish five strokes ahead of Santa Clara. The Hornets’ Astha Mandan came from behind with a third-round score of 75 (+3), the low round of the day, to earn medalist honors by three strokes at 224 (+8).
The Seattle University women’s golf team returns to action Saturday and Sunday, Feb. 28-March 1, for the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona University at the Oak Creek Canyon Golf Club in Sedona, Ariz.
