Seattle U to Host Set of Midwest Foes: After taking their first road trip of 2015 last weekend to UTPA and New Mexico State, Seattle University women’s basketball returns home to host Chicago State and Kansas City. They will finish out the month of January at home, hosting travel partner Bakersfield the following weekend (Jan. 31) before hitting the road again to open the month of February. Home Sweet Home: With a record-high 20 home games this season, SU is already through 14 games of their 2014-15 home schedule, completing 10 of 20 (including exhibitions) prior to the Christmas holiday. The Redhawks just finished a stretch in which they played 11 of 12 on their home court (Nov. 29-Jan. 10).
Scouting Chicago State (2-13, 0-2 WAC): The Cougars have opened conference play with a single game each of the past two weeks, both at home, so they will make their first WAC road trip of the season this weekend. CSU dropped their WAC opener vs. UTPA, 75-60, on Jan. 10 before losing to travel partner UMKC, 65-59, on Jan. 17. Layne Murphy (9.9 ppg) leads the team in scoring and rebounding (7.0 rpg, good for fourth in the WAC) while Paris Williams follows closely behind, averaging 9.6 ppg. Last season, in their first meetings as conference foes, the Redhawks opened their conference schedule in Chicago on Jan. 2, defeating the Cougars, 85-58, before CSU traveled to Seattle (Mar. 8) for SU’s senior day, a game the Redhawks also won, 75-63. The Cougars are being outscored by 22.7 ppg by their opponents and outrebounded by 10.1 rpg, averaging a 39.2 percent field-goal percentage.

Calli White is averaging a team-high 12.9 ppg while Kiana Law is averaging 6.7 rpg to lead UMKC. The ‘Roos opponents, so far this season, are outscoring them by 11.6 ppg but rebounds are nearly equal, with Kansas City holding the slight advantage (35.2-35.1 rpg). White ranks second in the league in free-throw pct. coming into the week (83.9 percent) while Samantha Waldron ranks third in three-point field goal pct. (40.0 percent).
High Scoring Performances: On Jan. 17 at New Mexico State, Renee Dillard-Brown scored a career-high 12 points and tied her career high with seven rebounds. Taelor Ross also blocked a career high-tying three shots in the game.
