Seattle University women’s basketball (2-9) came within three points midway through the second half but could not further erase the deficit as they fell, 63-55, to Idaho State (4-6).

“Our intensity and energy needs to be more consistent,” said head coach Joan Bonvicini, “and I think the most disappointing thing today was our rebounding. We were ahead in rebounding at halftime and then they got 13 offensive rebounds. I think the break will be good for everyone and we’ll come back focused and ready and our energy needs to be consistent the entire time.”

The Redhawks battled back with a 10-0 run over a four minute span midway through the second half jumpstarted by a Taelor Ross (Vancouver, Wash.) jumper. Alexis Montgomery (Beaverton, Ore.) and Crystal Allen (Fort Worth, Texas) would combine for the remainder of the scoring on the run. However, trailing by three, 42-39, at the 11:22 mark of the second half would be as close as the Redhawks would come to evening the score.

SU trailed by near double digits for the opening five minutes of the second half and would trail again by near double digits towards the end of the contest, falling by eight.

Ross tied the game on a jumper a minute and a half into the first half after Jasmine Lemon opened the contest with a jumper at 18:58. Trailing by six, 13-7, six and a half minutes into the game, three different Redhawks hit back-to-back-to-back buckets to tie the game at 13 three minutes later.

Seattle U took their only lead of the game, 14-13, at the 9:21 mark of the first half on the second of two free throws by Jazmine Johnson (Lakewood, Calif.) but a Megan Hochstein layup and Rebecca Schrimpsher three at 8:41 took back the lead for good.

The Redhawks were led by Allen with 15 points, shooting a career-high 11-for-13 from the free throw line. Montgomery (11 pts) and Ross (10 pts) also scored in double figures for SU.

Closing their seven-game homestand, Seattle U will take a week off for the Christmas holiday, playing their final non-conference road game at Oregon on Monday, Dec. 29 at 4 pm PT. The first of four games in a seven day span, the Redhawks return home to kick off a four-game homestand leading into the Western Athletic Conference home opener on Jan. 10 vs. Utah Valley.
