The Seattle University athletics department has partnered with Apl.de.ap (pronounced "Apple Dee Ap"), best known as a founding member of the Grammy Award-winning group The Black Eyed Peas.
This collaboration is focused on bringing awareness and raising funds to aid in the continuing efforts of the Apl.de.ap Foundation on the ground one year after Typhoon Haiyan devastated the Philippines. The foundation is also tracking current weather conditions in the region, as more severe weather is being forecast this weekend, making the need for help more immediate.
The campaign will feature an exclusive experience and performance Saturday at KeyArena as the Seattle University men's basketball team takes on Eastern Washington. Proceeds from this night will go to support the work that Apl.de.ap is conducting, and 100 percent of the funds donated to the foundation will go directly to the execution of the program initiatives, with all administrative expenses being covered directly by Apl.de.ap.
The partnership between Seattle U Athletics and the Apl.de.ap Foundation is rooted in the belief that the efforts of Apl.de.ap are consistent with the mission of Seattle University to "create leaders for a just and humane world." One year after the tragedy associated with Typhoon Haiyan, there is still a lot of work to be done, families are still affected, and communities are working to restore so much of what was lost.
The Redhawk athletics department and the Apl.de.ap Foundation ask everyone to join them in bringing this issue back to the forefront, to "Rise Up and Remember" all those whose lives have been forever changed.
