Seattle University was one of just 188 schools across the nation to have both their men’s and women’s soccer teams awarded the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Team Academic Award for 2013-14. This is the fourth straight such honor for the women’s soccer team while this is the men’s team’s first honor in the Division I era.

The women’s soccer team posted a 3.34 cumulative GPA as one of 582 women’s teams to post a 3.0 or higher team grade point average (GPA) while the men’s team recorded a 3.17 cumulative GPA as one of 279 men’s teams for the 2013-14 academic year.

The Seattle U men earned one of the top two seeds in the 2014 Western Athletic Conference tournament for the second straight year, taking Bakersfield to penalty kicks in the semifinal match. During the 2014 season, they earned a win over No. 24 Oregon State on Sept. 26 and recorded a six-game unbeaten streak to close out the year.

The women’s team advanced to their second straight NCAA Tournament, earning the program’s first ever Division I tournament win with a 2-1 double overtime victory at No. 23 Washington State in the First Round. The Redhawks advanced to the Second Round in Chapel Hill, N.C. taking No. 18 South Carolina to penalty kicks.

Fans are encouraged to vote for women’s soccer’s Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) for the Senior CLASS Award, as today, Nov. 24, is the final day of fan voting, which will count for 1/3 of the final tally.
