The Seattle University baseball team will head across the country to participate in the third annual USA Baseball-Irish Classic, presented by the Greater Raleigh Sports Alliance and co-hosted by USA Baseball and the University of Notre Dame Feb. 27-March 1, 2015, at the USA Baseball National Training Complex.
Seattle U will begin its participation in the classic Friday, Feb. 27, facing the University of Richmond from the Atlantic-10 Conference at 2 p.m. local time. The Redhawks take on the Notre Dame Fighting Irish Saturday, Feb. 28, at 1 p.m. Eastern time before concluding the weekend against the University of Cincinnati from the American Athletic Conference Sunday, March 1, at 12 noon local time.
The other half of the 2015 field includes North Carolina State from the Atlantic Coast Conference, Iowa and Penn State from the Big Ten Conference, and East Carolina, also from the American Athletic Conference. Two games, one on Friday and one on Sunday, will be played at Doak Stadium on North Carolina State’s campus, with the other 10 contests, including all three Seattle U games, taking place at the USA Baseball National Training Complex, either at Coleman Field or one of the three training fields located within Thomas Brooks Park.
Seattle U faced Notre Dame at Husky Ballpark Feb. 25-26, 2011, with the Fighting Irish winning the first game of the series Feb. 25, 5-0, before the Redhawks swept a doubleheader on Feb. 26, 1-0 and 7-2. The Redhawks will be facing both Richmond and Cincinnati for the first time ever.
Tickets for the USA Baseball-Irish Classic will be available for purchase on Oct. 20. Weekend passes are $30 per adult, with day passes available for $12. Seniors, college students with a valid ID, youth age 13-18 and groups can purchase passes for $25 for the tournament or $10 a day. Children under the age of 12 will be admitted free of charge.
The rest of the 2015 Seattle University baseball schedule is being finalized and will be released as soon as it is complete. The Redhawks are looking to return to the Western Athletic Conference Baseball Tournament, which will take place at the newly renovated Hohokam Stadium in Mesa, Ariz., May 20-24, 2015.
