Selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA), the 2014 Capital One Academic All-District® women’s soccer teams have been announced, and Seattle University earned one First Team and one Second Team honoree.

The award recognizes the nation’s top student-athletes for their combined performances athletically as well as academically.  District VIII, of which Seattle U is a part, encompasses eight states (Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawai’i, Nevada, Oregon, Utah, Washington) as well as Canada.

Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) was named First Team Academic All-District® while Jacqui Wallis (Lake Oswego, Ore.) was named Second Team Academic All-District®.

"I am really proud of Stephanie and Jacqui's accomplishments in the classroom," said head coach Julie Woodward. "I believe their commitment to academics translates to the field and sets very high standards and examples for our team as a whole. These two are both extremely committed and disciplined and I am so impressed with how hard they work to represent our program."

This is Verdoia’s second straight First Team honor and third all-time honor, as she was also named to the Second Team in 2012. Wallis has earned back-to-back All-District honors as well, named to the First Team in 2013.

Verdoia recently became the new all-time Seattle U career leader in both goals (currently 47) and points (currently 122) with her second career hat trick on Senior Day vs. Chicago State on Oct. 26. Earlier this season, she was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week after recording her then-career high seven points in the 6-3 victory at Bakersfield on Oct. 5. She is also a top 10 finalist for the prestigious Senior CLASS Award, with the winner to be announced in conjunction with the 2014 NCAA Division I Men’s and Women’s College Cup® in December.

Wallis was named to the Preseason All-WAC Team prior to the start of the season as well as being named College Sports Madness Preseason Second Team All-Conference. Most recently, she earned her fourth career start with a pair of goals in the team’s Senior Day shutout vs. Chicago State on Oct. 26. Also excelling academically, Wallis maintains a perfect 4.0 GPA as a double major in philosophy and cell and molecular biology.

As a First Team honoree, Verdoia moves on for Academic All-America® consideration, which will include a first, second, and third team and will be selected later this season. In 2013, Wallis and Verdoia were both named to the Academic All-America® Third Team.

To be eligible for this award, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings, and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
