The Seattle University baseball program celebrated Halloween early for a good cause, putting together a charity softball game Tuesday night at Logan Field to benefit the Sparrow Foundation.

According to its website, the Sparrow Foundation "aims to provide quality, compassionate health care to everyone, every time, regardless of their ability to pay. Funding is provided for equipment, services, facilities, educational programs, and research that would otherwise not be possible."

Seattle U Athletics Hall of Famer Steve Mezich, an alum of the baseball program, presented an opportunity for the team to "adopt" a young man out of Redmond, Wash., and his family to help them in their time of need. The baseball coaches and players embraced the opportunity and started their relationship with the young man and his family through the Sparrow Foundation last week.

This past Tuesday evening, the players dressed up in Halloween costumes and split up into two teams for a charity softball game played at Logan Field at Seattle University Park. It also served as a way for the team to get together and relax after going through its fall season in September and October.

The Seattle University baseball team plans to release its spring 2015 schedule next week.
