Thanks to consistent golf from the players whose scores counted in the first round of the Georgetown Intercollegiate, the Seattle University men’s golf team sits in a tie for second place after Monday’s play at The Members Club at Four Streams.

The first round did not start until 10:30 a.m. local time due to weather, forcing tournament organizers to reduce the tournament from 54 holes to 36 holes. Everyone completed the first round Monday, with the second and final round scheduled to start Tuesday, Oct. 21, at 8:30 a.m. local time.

Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) continued his strong initial collegiate season, shooting one-over-par 72 to end the day in a tie for 11th place. Sophomores Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) and Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) each shot 73 (+2) to finish the first round in a tie for 16th place. Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) finds himself in a tie for 33rd place after shooting 75 (+4), and Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) is in 65th place after posting a first-round score of 85 (+14).

As a team, Seattle U combined for an opening-round score of 293 (+9), tied with Illinois State for second place among the 12-team field and one stroke ahead of third-place Penn State. Toledo opened a nine-stroke lead in the team standings thanks to an even-par round of 284, led by individual leader Otto Black, who shot 69 (-2) for a one-stroke lead over fellow Toledo player Chris Selfridge and James Fahy of Gonzaga.

The Seattle University players will tee off Tuesday from the first hole, starting with Young at 9:30 a.m. Eastern Time and continuing until Harvie starts his round at 10:10 a.m. local time.
