Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) of Seattle University women’s soccer (10-4-1, 6-1-0 WAC) has been named Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week for the week of Oct. 13-19, 2014. This is Verdoia’s second weekly conference award of the 2014 season and sixth such career honor.

“Steph had a good weekend for us and she continues to be a leader on the field,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “The special thing about her is she has the ability to score as well as set her teammates up to score. It is really great that she is playing so well at this point in the season, where it’s important to be at your best with the upcoming conference tournament.”

Verdoia recorded a career high eight points at New Mexico State on Oct. 17 as she had a hand in all six Seattle U goals in the 6-1 victory (two goals, four assists). Over the weekend, she tallied 12 points total, scoring two more goals in the 4-0 shutout at Texas-Pan American on Oct. 19. In the most recent NCAA Division I individual rankings, prior to the weekend, Verdoia ranked in the top 10 in total points and points per game and in the top 20 in total goals, goals per game, and game-winning goals.

Two weeks ago, Verdoia was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA National Player of the Week on Oct. 7, after setting her previous single game career high with seven points at Bakersfield on Oct. 5. She is also a top 30 candidate for the Senior CLASS Award®, with the list of candidates to be narrowed to 10 before month-end.

With 44 career goals and 114 career points going into this weekend, Verdoia is nearing the top spot in Seattle U’s career record books, sitting in second place in both lists. With one more goal and two more points, Verdoia will tie the top spots in each category.

UMKC’s Kaely Tott was named Defensive Player of the Week for helping the ‘Roos break the school record for consecutive wins, posting a pair of shutouts over the weekend vs. Grand Canyon and Bakersfield.

Verdoia and her fellow seniors will play their final regular season weekend at home as they open the weekend hosting Kansas City on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. on the WAC Digital Network. Friday will be a key league matchup for the Redhawks, as UMKC currently sits in first place right ahead of Seattle U in second. The six seniors will be honored prior to Sunday’s match vs. Chicago State with kickoff set for 12 noon.

Links to live stats and live video for the weekend are on the women’s soccer schedule page at GoSeattleU.com. Single game tickets can be purchased at the Championship Field main gate (14th and E Cherry) starting 60 minutes prior to kickoff of each match.

Seattle U will host both the Women’s (Nov. 6-7, 9) and Men’s (Nov. 13-14,16) WAC Soccer Tournaments on back-to-back weekends next month. All-session passes are on sale now on Ticketmaster and can also be purchased by calling the Redhawk Ticket Office at (206) 398-GOSU(4678).
