HOME SWEET HOME: Seattle University is hoping to take advantage of a favorable schedule as it plays five of its next seven matches at home during this crucial period of the season. The Redhawks begin a three-match homestand Thursday, Oct. 16, against the Bakersfield Roadrunners before continuing it against the Grand Canyon Antelopes Saturday afternoon, Oct. 18. Currently tied for third in the league standings, a couple of victories could propel the Redhawks up the conference standings.

LAST WEEK: Seattle University split its matches during the Midwest road swing, defeating Chicago State last Thursday night, 3-1 (26-24, 25-14, 18-25, 25-17), before losing to UMKC last Saturday afternoon, 3-1 (25-17, 14-25, 25-19, 25-17). Against the Cougars, Iris Ivanis earned a season-high 20 kills and a .421 hitting percentage. Kerry Lane notched her second double-double of the season with 30 assists and 10 digs, Martina Samadan collected seven kills and seven total blocks, and Shelby Babcock led the Redhawks with 13 defensive digs. Saturday, the Redhawks evened the match at one set apiece thanks to an 11-1 scoring run that closed the second set, but UMKC’s offense was too much for Seattle U. Matea Mamic tied her career high with 15 kills, plus she set a new career best in hitting percentage at .448. Ivanis notched her third double-double of 2014 with 10 kills and 12 digs, Samadan finished with seven kills and nine total blocks, and Babcock again led the backline with 14 digs.
