Seattle University women’s soccer’s Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) has been named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Women’s Soccer Division I Player of the Week for Sept. 29-Oct. 5.

Over the weekend, the senior captain recorded both game-winners in conference road victories at Grand Canyon and Bakersfield. At GCU on Oct. 3, she drew the game-tying penalty kick and put away the game-winner in the 64th minute. At Bakersfield, she recorded a career-high seven points with two goals and three assists.

As of the Oct. 6 NCAA rankings, Verdoia moved back into the top 10 in points per game (6th), total points (7th), goals per game (8th), and total goals (10) and top 15 in game-winning goals (12th).

Earlier this season, Verdoia was named a top 30 candidate for the Senior CLASS Award, one of the most elite awards for college senior student-athletes. The list will be narrowed down to a top 10 in mid-October. She was also named Preseason Western Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, expected to repeat her league title from 2013.

The Disney Soccer/NSCAA Players of the Week are announced every Tuesday throughout the fall college season on NSCAATV.com. In 2013, the program was expanded to include a men's and women's winner from all three NCAA Divisions.

Verdoia was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week for her accomplishments.

This weekend, the Redhawks host Grand Canyon (Oct.10 at 7:30 p.m.) and Bakersfield (Oct. 12 at 11 a.m.) in a pair of doubleheaders with the Seattle U men’s team (Oct. 10 vs. UNLV at 5 p.m.; Oct. 12 vs. Grand Canyon at 1:30 p.m.). Friday will be the team’s annual Pink Match, with select proceeds benefitting Susan G. Komen and the fight against breast cancer. Fans in attendance wearing pink will receive a special $3 ticket.

The Seattle U gameday ticket office opens 60 minutes prior to kickoff at the main entrance of Championship Field at the corner of 14th and E Cherry.
