Seattle University women’s rowing head coach Jenny Park has announced the team’s 2014-15 women’s rowing schedule, the squad’s third year as an NCAA Division I varsity program and Park’s second full year as head coach after serving as interim head coach during the Redhawks’ inaugural season.

Last season, the Redhawks made significant improvements in their second Division I year highlighted by the novice 8+ medaling at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA’s) championships (Apr. 26-27), as both the N8+ and varsity 8+ advanced to the Grand Finals. The novice 8+ also earned big wins at the Daffodil Sprints (Mar. 29) and the Covered Bridge Regatta (Apr. 12) while the varsity 8+ defeated two Washington boats with a win at the Opening Day Regatta (May 3) in the women’s collegiate open 8+ race.

“I’m really excited for things to get started,” says Park. “We ended on a high note last year and I’m looking forward to building off of that momentum.”

This season, Seattle U opens the season with four fall events, bookended by the Tail of the Lake (Oct. 5) on Lake Union and the Head of the Lake (Nov. 2) on the Montlake Cut. In between, the Redhawks travel south to the American Lake Fall Classic (Oct. 12) in Lakewood, Wash. and the Portland Fall Classic (Oct. 26) on the Willamette River in Portland, Ore.

The Redhawks start the spring with the University of Portland Duel (Mar. 14), which has become a yearly matchup, on Vancouver Lake in Vancouver, Wash. before the Daffodil Springs (Mar. 28), which the novice 8+ won last season, on American Lake in Lakewood, Wash.

The month of April brings the Husky Open (Apr. 4) on the Montlake Cut, as well as the Covered Bridge Regatta (Apr. 11), of which the SU novice 8+ is the defending champion, in Eugene, Ore. and will close with the WIRA championships (Apr. 25-26) on Lake Natoma in Sacramento, Calif.

SU finishes the season at the Opening Day Regatta (May 2) on the Montlake Cut as part of the Windermere Cup festivities, annually known as one of the most prestigious rowing events in the world.
