After a bit of a struggle in the first round, the play of the Seattle University women’s golf team improved as typical Pacific Northwest weather conditions moved in, and the Redhawks moved up into eighth place after 36 holes Monday of the Rose City Collegiate, hosted by Portland State University at the Langdon Farms Golf Club.

Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) made a significant improvement during the day, following an opening round 79 (+7) with a second round score of 71 (-1), featuring three birdies in the afternoon round. One of just four players in the 75-golfer field to post a second-round score under par, Beyke moved up 31 spots into a tie for 16th place.

Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) also ended the day in a tie for 16th place at 150 (+6), but her day was the reverse of Beyke’s, as she posted five birdies during a first-round 73 (+1) before shooting 77 (+5) in the second round. Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) also shot 79 (+7) in the first round, but settled down to shoot 73 (+1) in the afternoon, moving up into a tie for 25th place at 152 (+8).

Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) shot 80 (+8) in the first round before improving to a second-round 76 (+4), moving up into a tie for 40th place with a 36-hole total of 156 (+12). Tori Hoff (Orinda, Calif.) lowered her round score from an 83 (+11) in the morning to a 78 (+6) in the afternoon, finishing the day in a tie for 69th place at 161 (+17).

As a team, Seattle U combined for an opening round score of 311 (+23) before shooting 297 (+9) in the second round, the fourth-best team score in the afternoon, to end the day in eighth place at 608 (+32), close to the top five. Cal State Fullerton finished the day ahead of San Francisco by one stroke, with the Titans’ Tisha Alyn Abrea holding a one-stroke advantage over Samantha Chan of UC Irvine.

The third and final round of the Rose City Collegiate is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. Tuesday, with Seattle U golfers playing in the first five groups off the first tee along with golfers from Oregon State and Louisiana Monroe.
