The Seattle University men’s golf team maintained its standing as the second round of the Mark Simpson Colorado Invitational was completed, finishing the reduced event in eighth place Tuesday at the Colorado National Golf Club.

After making two bogeys at the start of his second round before play was halted Monday, Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) earned three birdies on the course’s front nine to finish the round at one-over-par 73, completing the tournament in a tie for 11th place at 142 (-2). Cornett collected seven birdies over the past two days, shooting one-under-par on the par-four holes and two-under-par on the par-five holes.

Freshman Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) ended his tournament on a high note, earning a birdie on the par-four 11th hole, his final hole of the round, to post a second-round score of 75 (+3). Harvie 36-hole total of 147 (+3) put him in a tie for 29th place in the final standings. Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) improved on Tuesday, making two birdies down the stretch of his second round to post a score of 73 (+1) and a two-round total of 150 (+6), good enough to finish in a tie for 52nd place.

Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) shot 77 (+5) in his second round for a 36-hole total of 151 (+7), putting him in a tie for 58th place in the final standings. Shane Wathanasaynee (Los Alamitos, Calif.) birdied his final hole of the tournament, but still struggled with a second-round score of 83 (+11), leading to a tie for 83rd place with a two-round total of 157 (+13).

As a team, Seattle U posted a second round score of 298 (+10) to finish the tournament in eighth place with a 36-hole total of 587 (+11). Host school Colorado, led by David Oraee’s wire-to-wire individual victory at 131 (-13), shot the lowest round for the second straight day to cruise to a 12-stroke victory over San Diego.

Next week, the Seattle University men’s golf team heads to its third tournament hosted by a Pac-12 school, traveling to Park City, Utah, for the Utah Ogio Invitational at the Jeremy Golf and Country Club Oct. 6-7.
