Seattle U Hosts Packed Weekend Slate of Games: Seattle U women’s soccer (4-3-0), is set to host Portland on Thursday in their non-conference finale in a rematch from last season’s NCAA Tournament First Round match (Portland won, 2-0). On Sunday, they will welcome Utah Valley to Seattle for their Western Athletic Conference opener in a doubleheader with the Seattle U men’s soccer team (men take on Gonzaga at 3 p.m.). The men will also host Oregon State on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. For non-street parking, fans can find pay parking in the Murphy Garage (11th Ave & E James Way) just three blocks from Championship Field. Jersey Night: Thursday will be “Jersey Night” as all kids 12 and under will receive free admission for wearing their soccer club jersey or any type of jersey.
Ticket Information: Fans can purchase single game tickets starting an hour prior to each match at the ticket booth at the main Championship Field entrance (corner of 14th and E Cherry). Prices are as follows: $7 for general admission, $5 for youth (17 and under) and seniors (65+). Scouting Portland (3-4-1): The Pilots are 3-4-1 heading into this weekend with their last win coming vs. Miami, 2-1, to open their own Nike Portland Invitational on Sept. 12. Most recently, Portland played Oregon State to a 0-0 tie on Sept. 19. Portland was ranked No. 11 in the NSCAA preseason poll to start 2014 but have dropped four of eight games to start 2014 despite returning 12 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2013 team that reached the second round of the NCAA tournament for the 14th straight year. Danica Evans has scored a team-high three goals this season while Taylor Luty and Hannah de Haan have shared time in goal.
Scouting Utah Valley (5-3-2): The Wolverines recorded a seven-game unbeaten streak from Aug. 29 to Sept. 19 but most recently dropped a 4-0 contest at Utah on Sept. 21. Kalli Stubbs has scored a team-high four goals while Jessica Duffin has played all 10 complete games at keeper with a 0.85 GAA and 45 saves. Last season, Seattle U shut out Utah Valley in both meetings as part of a seven-game shutout streak (2-0 in Orem on Oct. 6; 3-0 in Seattle on Oct. 18).
