For the second time this season, junior Gus Arroyo (Portland, Ore.) has been named the Western Athletic Conference Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week, announced Tuesday afternoon by the conference office.

Arroyo was the top finisher for the Seattle U men’s cross country team at the Sundodger Invitational, hosted by the University of Washington at Lincoln Park in West Seattle last Saturday. Over the eight-kilometer course, Arroyo crossed the finish line in 21st place with a time of 25:24, 21 seconds faster than the mark he posted at this event last year.

Arroyo was previously named WAC Male Cross Country Athlete of the Week on Sept. 2 after finishing fifth at the UW/SU Open at Magnuson Park. He becomes the second Seattle U runner to receive the conference’s weekly award more than once in a single season, as Erik Barkhaus accomplished the feat in 2012.

The Seattle University cross country team will compete at the Viking Cross Country Classic, hosted by Portland State University at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, Ore., Saturday, Oct. 4, starting at 12 noon.
