The Seattle University volleyball team closed out its participation in the 2014 Invitational in Seattle, a tournament it co-hosted with the University of Washington, with a 3-0 loss (25-23, 25-23, 25-14) to the UC Davis Aggies Saturday night at the Connolly Center.

“I am disappointed in the individual play as well as the overall team effort tonight,” Seattle U head coach James Finley said. “Matea played another good match and earned her spot on the All-Tournament Team, but we have to perform better during this upcoming road trip if we want to get to the level we aspire to.”
UC Davis (3-6) took a 6-2 lead in the first set thanks to consecutive service aces by Erika Conners, but Seattle U responded with its own 9-2 scoring run to pull ahead, 11-8. Three kills by Mamic helped the Redhawks pull into a 23-23 tie, but kills by Wegener and Kaylin Squyres clinched the opening set for UC Davis.
The Aggies scored five unanswered points early in the second set to take an 8-4 lead, but Seattle U scored five of the next six points to tie the set at 9-9. After the Aggies pulled ahead 13-11, the Redhawks scored five straight points, but UC Davis answered with three straight points of its own. Kills by Mamic and Stoll helped the Redhawks establish a 20-17 advantage, but Wegener earned two kills to pull the Aggies into a 20-20 tie. A service ace by Sophia Mar and a Redhawk attack error gave the second set to UC Davis.
After Seattle U scored the first two points after the intermission, UC Davis went on an 8-2 run to once again take the lead, 8-4. Kills by Mamic and Kerry Lane (Tucson, Ariz.) closed the Redhawk deficit to two at 11-9, but the Aggies responded with a 10-3 scoring run, capped by consecutive kills from Squyres. UC Davis scored the final three points of the match, with Squyres earning a service ace to give the Aggies the victory.
