Seattle U Travels to St. Mary’s for Sunday Matchup: After a dominating 4-1 win over Eastern Washington last weekend, Seattle University women’s soccer (3-2-0) travels to St. Mary’s to take on the Gaels on Sunday, Sept. 14 at 2:30 p.m. This will be the team’s longest regular season gap between contests as they have nine days between matches this week. Scouting St. Mary’s: The Gaels are 3-3-0 heading into the weekend and will host Idaho before the Redhawks come to Moraga on Sunday. SMC defeated Albany and Saint Joseph’s on opening weekend before taking down Pac-12’s Oregon State, 4-2, on Aug. 31. Most recently, last weekend, they were shut out by No. 12 California, 4-0, before falling to Nevada, 2-1. Three different Gaels lead the team with two goals apiece while Julia McDonald has played all 540 minutes in goal thus far in 2014. Saint Mary’s was picked to finish seventh in the 10-member West Coast Conference preseason poll.
Verdoia Named Senior CLASS Award® Top 30 Candidate: Stephanie Verdoia was named one of 30 DI women’s soccer student-athletes across the country as a candidate for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award®. The award focuses on four particular areas - community, classroom, character, and competition - and is one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate athletics. The list will be narrowed down to a top 10 in October with the winner announced at the 2014 College Cup® championships in December.
