Redhawks Head to Hawai’i for First Road Trip: After opening the regular season at home with a win vs. Idaho on Aug. 22 and a loss to Kentucky on Aug. 24, both in overtime, Seattle University women’s soccer (1-1-0) travels to Hawai’i for the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi in Honolulu. The Redhawks face Northern Illinois on Aug. 30 at 10 p.m. PT and host Hawai’i on Sept. 1 at 8 p.m. PT before returning home for a contest vs. Eastern Washington on Sept. 5. Scouting Northern Illinois: Last weekend, the Huskies suffered a pair of losses at in-state foes, Illinois State and Western Illinois. NIU returns Nicole Gobbo, who led the team last season with six goals but feature freshman goalie Amy Annala after losing both keepers who saw time in 2013. Northern Illinois was picked to finish sixth of six in the West Region of the Mid-American Conference after going 8-9-2 overall and 4-6-2 in conference play last season.
Scouting Hawai’i: Hawai’i hosts their second of three straight tournaments this weekend after a pair of losses to Arizona State, 5-2, and Texas, 2-1, on opening weekend as part of the Outrigger Resorts Shootout. This will be the second all-time meeting between the Redhawks and Rainbow Wahine after SU won the first, 3-0, in 2011. All-Big West honorees and sisters Kama and Krystal Pascua headline the list of returning starters. Top scorer Tiana Fujimoto redshirts the 2014 campaign after season-ending surgery. Monk Berger returns for her sophomore season in goal after setting a new single-season record in shutouts last year (7).
