Seattle University women’s basketball associate head coach Kristen O’Neill has been chosen to attend the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Assistant Coaches Leadership Workshop. The first of its kind, only 40 coaches across the country were chosen for the elite program.

“It is such an honor to be selected for the WBCA Assistant Coaches Leadership Workshop,” said O’Neill. “The leadership and training abilities of the Marines are second to none. I look forward to learning skills from this workshop that will help me to grow as a coach, mentor, and person.”

The leadership workshop is taking place from Aug. 26-29 in Parris Island, S.C. at the Marine Corps Recruiting Depot. It will provide coaches with innovative training and motivational techniques to aid in preparing their respective teams for the upcoming season and years ahead.

“I am very proud to have Kristen O’Neill selected for the inaugural assistant coaches leadership training with the Marines, adds SU head coach Joan Bonvicini. “I am not surprised to hear that she is recognized as one of the top assistant coaches in the nation.”

O’Neill begins her sixth season at Seattle U in 2014-15 after being promoted to associate head coach in the summer of 2012.
