The Seattle University volleyball team invites the public to the annual Red and White Scrimmage, an intrasquad competition now taking place Friday, Aug. 22, beginning at 7 p.m. at the Connolly Center.

Seattle U head volleyball coach James Finley and his staff will split the 2014 Redhawk squad into two teams to give the players a chance to play under match conditions heading into the start of the regular season the next weekend. Also, this will be the first chance for the public to see the new Redhawk volleyball team in action as it heads into the 2014 campaign.

The start time of the Red and White Scrimmage was set specifically to give Seattle U fans the opportunity to catch the regular season opener for the women’s soccer team against Idaho at Championship Field at 5 p.m. At the conclusion of the soccer match, everyone is invited to head across the street to the Connolly Center to catch the volleyball intrasquad scrimmage for free.

Also, Finley is planning to attend part of the soccer match along with members of the team, and he encourages volleyball alumni to join him at Championship Field to socialize and cheer on the defending WAC women’s soccer champions. Single game tickets for Seattle U soccer, $7 for general admission and $5 for youth ages 17 and under and seniors ages 65 and above, will be available beginning 60 minutes before kickoff at the Championship Field entrance gate, located on the southwest corner of 14th and Cherry.

In other schedule changes over the past month, Seattle U’s participation in the Lobo Invitational in Albuquerque, N.M., has been adjusted. The Redhawks will now play two matches Friday, Aug. 29, starting with the host New Mexico Lobos at 1 p.m. local time, followed by UTEP at 5 p.m. Mountain time. Seattle U will finish the weekend with a contest against the Texas Longhorns Saturday, Aug. 30, at 3:30 p.m. local time. At the end of the regular season, Seattle U will head south to face the Portland Pilots Friday, Nov. 28, at 7 p.m., 24 hours earlier than originally scheduled.

The Seattle University volleyball team enters the 2014 season after advancing to the semifinals of the WAC Volleyball Tournament in 2013. The Redhawks will officially report to campus Monday, Aug. 11.
