“We have an outstanding non-conference schedule, highlighted by Washington at KeyArena on Dec. 4,” said Bonvicini. “It’s another very challenging schedule, playing three Pac-12 schools, including Washington State and Oregon on the road. We have a very good non-conference home schedule and I’m looking forward to it, as it will definitely prepare us for the WAC.”
The season unofficially opens at home with a pair of exhibition matches vs. Central Washington (Nov. 1) and Northwest (Nov. 5) before the Redhawks open the regular season at Long Beach State on Nov. 14.
The Redhawks’ home opener will take place on Sunday, Nov. 16 vs. Portland State before they head due east for a pair of road games at Washington State (Nov. 21) and Montana State (Nov. 23). SU will face Oregon in Eugene on Monday, Dec. 29 just before the New Year, bookending a seven-game home streak.
Seattle U will host seven straight starting with a Thanksgiving weekend contest versus Idaho (Nov. 29), previously a conference foe but now serving as a non-conference game after the Vandals left the WAC in July 2014. The Redhawks will also welcome LMU (Dec. 6), San Diego (Dec. 12), University of San Francisco (Dec. 14), Montana (Dec. 17), and Idaho State (Dec. 21) to the Connolly Center.
Following the Idaho contest, in the second game of the seven game home streak, SU will host crosstown rival Washington for the team’s annual home game at KeyArena on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
SU closes out their non-conference schedule at home with a New Years Eve contest vs. UC Santa Barbara (Dec .31) and a pair of back-to-back post-New Years games vs. CSU Northridge (Jan. 3) and CSU Fullerton (Jan. 4).
For the first time, the Redhawks will open their WAC schedule at home, hosting Utah Valley on Saturday, Jan. 10. In conference play, they will also host Chicago State (Jan. 22), Kansas City (Jan. 24), Bakersfield (Jan. 31), New Mexico State (Feb. 12), UTPA (Feb. 14), and Grand Canyon (Mar. 7) on Senior Day.
In league road play, SU will face UTPA (Jan. 15), New Mexico State (Jan. 17), Grand Canyon (Feb. 5), Utah Valley (Feb. 7), Kansas City (Feb. 19), Chicago State (Feb. 21), and Bakersfield (Feb. 28).
“I think the WAC is a good conference, particularly with some great guards. I think this year, the conference will be much more balanced, but still very competitive with some very good returnees. We’re looking forward to challenging again for the WAC title and our goal is to win the regular season and tournament titles. We’ve been knocking on the door the past two years, now we just need to knock it down.”
This year’s WAC Tournament will again take place at the Orleans Arena in Las Vegas, Nev. on Mar. 11-14, with all seven eligible teams advancing to the tournament. The winner will receive the league’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament, with the first and second rounds taking place from Mar. 21-24. NCAA Regionals (Mar. 28-31) follows with the Final Four (Apr. 5-7) taking place in Tampa, Fla.
