After becoming just the fourth team in Western Athletic Conference history to go undefeated in league play, winning the conference tournament, and becoming Seattle University’s first female team to earn a berth in the NCAA Division I tournament, Seattle U women’s soccer releases their 2014 schedule, hoping to build upon the success of last season.

“I am really excited about our fall schedule,” said 2013 WAC Coach of the Year Julie Woodward. “We have a great opportunity to play some very challenging and experienced teams from strong conferences in the preseason. I am confident this will prepare us to have a strong run in conference play.”

SU will unofficially open the season with a pair of exhibition matches, with one on the road and another at home, taking on Washington State in Pullman, Wash. on Aug. 14 before returning home to host Trinity Western on Aug. 16. The Cougars are one of three teams on the Redhawks’ 2014 schedule to have made an appearance in last fall’s NCAA Tournament.

The Redhawks’ first regular season game will come on Friday, Aug. 22 against former-WAC foe, Idaho, who SU most recently defeated 6-1 en route to their WAC tournament title in Nov. 2013. Seattle U will close the weekend hosting Kentucky, who advanced to the second round of the 2013 NCAA Tournament, on Sunday, Aug. 24.

A trip west comes next for the Redhawks as they will face Northern Illinois (Aug. 30) and Hawaii (Sept. 1) in Honolulu as part of the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi. A late start in Seattle, both away contests will start at 10 p.m. Pacific Time, as Hawaii is three hours behind the Pacific Northwest.

Seattle U is set to host Eastern Washington on Sept. 5 after facing the Eagles in Cheney last season. The 2-0 win was the Redhawks’ first shutout of the season en route to 11 total in 2013. The following weekend, SU makes a trip south to play St. Mary’s on Sept. 14.

SU will close out the non-conference schedule facing a pair of tough opponents as they host Washington on Sept. 19 and Portland, in a rematch of last season’s NCAA Tournament First Round match, on Sept 25. Despite missing the NCAA Tournament in 2013, the Huskies had previously earned a place in every postseason tournament since 1994.

Closing out the month of September and opening WAC play, the Redhawks are set to host Utah Valley in their WAC home opener on Sunday, Sept. 28 as part of a doubleheader with the SU men’s soccer team.

On alternating weekends, SU will play home and away pairs of WAC games including at home vs. Grand Canyon (Oct. 10), Bakersfield (Oct. 12), Kansas City (Oct. 24), and Chicago State (Oct. 26). On the road, the Redhawks will face Grand Canyon (Oct. 3), Bakersfield (Oct. 5), New Mexico State (Oct. 17), UTPA (Oct. 19), and Utah Valley (Nov. 1). Both Chicago State and UTPA add women’s soccer programs beginning with the 2014 season.

From Nov. 6-9, Seattle U is set to host the WAC Women’s Soccer Tournament, just a week before hosting the WAC Men’s Soccer Tournament. Soccer fans in Seattle will have ample opportunities over the two-week period to watch Division I collegiate soccer at Championship Field. The winner of the tournament will receive the league’s automatic qualifier to the NCAA Tournament.

Single game tickets are available for each game beginning 60 minutes prior to kickoff at the entrance gate to Championship Field on the southwest corner of 14th and Cherry. Ticket prices are as follows: $7 for general admission adult, $5 for youth (ages 17 and under) and seniors (ages 65+) general admission. To attend all games throughout the season, fans can buy the Redhawk Sports Pass for $50 which includes general admission seating for all women’s basketball, men’s and women’s soccer, volleyball, and baseball home contests in 2014-15.
