After rowing bow seat for the Seattle University women’s rowing varsity eight who won the women’s collegiate open 8+ race at the Opening Day Regatta, Hana Wilder (Portland, Ore.) has been named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week for the week of Apr. 28 – May 4, 2014 on GoSeattleU.com.

“Hana has made tremendous gains over the last two years,” said head coach Jenny Park. “She’s determined and has led the team this year by great example as our captain. I look forward to seeing her success in life after graduation.”

The varsity 8+ capped the season on a high note with a victory at the Opening Day Regatta on the Montlake Cut, the official start to boating season in Seattle, and the prelude to one of the most prominent races in the world, the Windermere Cup. The boat finished with a time of 7:20.3 ahead of two University of Washington boats as well as a boat from Western Washington University.

The week prior, the varsity 8+ advanced to their second straight Grand Finals at the Western Intercollegiate Rowing Association (WIRA’s) championships in Sacramento, Calif.

The senior captain, who was also a member of the SU rowing team at the club level, serving as the novice team captain in 2011-12, also excels in the classroom with a 3.54 cumulative GPA as a finance major.

The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
