As part of the festivities surrounding the annual prestigious Windermere Cup and the opening day of boating season in Seattle, Seattle University women’s rowing participated in the Opening Day Regatta led by the varsity 8+ who topped two Washington boats and a boat from Western Washington University in the women’s collegiate open 8+ race.
“We finished off the season today on a great note,” said head coach Jenny Park. “I am thrilled with all of our results. It was a great second season [as a varsity program] and I can’t wait for the next!”
The Redhawks finished ahead of a pair of Washington boats in the open 8+ race with a time of 7:20.3, followed by Washington (A), Washington (B) over the next ten seconds, and Western Washington, who finished over 30 seconds behind SU.
The novice 8+ also defeated a Washington boat in their respective race with a time of 6:57.8, nearly five seconds ahead of the Huskies’ B boat.
With this race, Seattle U concludes their second season as a varsity rowing program, improving upon the success of last season, and they will look to further improve throughout the offseason and 2014 fall season.
