Led by a strong first-round performance from freshman Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.), the Seattle University women’s golf team is in third place after Friday’s competition at the Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships at Longbow Golf Club.
Addicks finished her round with back-to-back birdies to move into a tie for sixth place with an opening round 76 (+4), just three strokes behind tournament leader Leilanie Kim of Idaho. Besides the two birdies, Addicks collected 12 pars during the day, tied for second-most among the 45-player field.
Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) was next for the Redhawks, shooting 81 (+9) to end the day in a tie for 15th place. Juhee Lee (Manhattan, Ore.) birdied the first and ninth holes, but struggled on the back nine and finished with an 82 (+10), currently in a tie for 19th place.
Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) ended the day in a tie for 23rd place after posting an opening round score of 84 (+12). Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) is currently in a tie for 38th place after shooting 89 (+17) in the first round.
As a team, Seattle U combined for a score of 323 (+35), landing in third place nine strokes ahead of Kansas City. Idaho leads the team competition with a first-round 302 (+14), seven strokes ahead of New Mexico State.
The second round is scheduled to start Saturday, April 26, at 7 a.m. Seattle University golfers are in the final five groups teeing off, beginning at 8:40 a.m. and continuing until Addicks starts her round at 9:20 a.m.
