Last season, the Redhawks made a splash at their first WIRAs as a varsity program, as the varsity 8+ qualified for the grand finals race and the novice 8+ won the petite finals. In their first heat, the varsity 8+ defeated San Diego State and the novice 8+ defeated Humboldt State. In their victorious petite finals race, the novice 8+ defeated Humboldt State, UC San Diego, UC Davis, and Oregon with a time of 7:28.5.
On Saturday, the Seattle U varsity 8+ will compete in heat two (event 17) at 10:40 a.m. vs. Saint Mary’s, Sacramento State, and San Diego State with Stanford, Portland, Loyola, and Santa Clara competing in heat one (event 16). The novice 8+ will compete in heat two (event 23) vs. Sacramento State, Santa Barbara, Orange Coast, and Sonoma State at 11:40 while Gonzaga, Portland, UCSD, Oregon, and UC Davis will compete in heat one (event 22).
The novice 8+ petite final will take place at 4:10 pm on Saturday while the novice 8+ grand final (10:10 a.m.), varsity 8+ petite final (11:20 a.m.) and varsity 8+ grand final (12 noon) will take place on Sunday.
