Seattle U Closes Regular Season Versus Grand Canyon: Seattle University softball (16-30, 5-7 WAC) won their first Western Athletic Conference road game in game one of a three game series at Bakersfield last weekend, before dropping the final two to the Roadrunners. This weekend, the Redhawks set their sights on Grand Canyon (25-17, 10-2 WAC) in their final weekend of regular season play before hosting the WAC tournament from May 8-10. Senior Day: The team will honor their five-member senior class in their final regular season home game of their Redhawk careers - Sarah Petosa, Richelle Ashburn, Karina Smyth, Jennifer Sweet, and Brianna Guerrero. Weather pending, the ceremony will take place before the single game on Saturday, Apr. 26.
Grand Canyon (25-17, 10-2 WAC): Grand Canyon took over the top spot in WAC standings after sweeping previous leader New Mexico State last weekend. They have won all four WAC series to date and have swept both NMSU and Utah Valley, currently on a seven-game winning streak and winning 13 of their last 15. Nicole Newbury leads the ‘Lopes at the plate (.367), also adding 18 runs on 36 hits as well as two doubles, a triple, a home run, and 16 RBIs. RHP Stephanie Pesqueira recently picked up her third WAC Pitcher of the Week honor of 2014 (Apr. 21), leading the league with 13 wins. In their first year of Division I reclassification, GCU is not eligible for the WAC tournament.
Seattle U to Host 2014 WAC Tournament: Seattle U will host the 2014 WAC Tournament on May 8-10, with all five eligible teams (Grand Canyon is in DI reclassification and thus not eligible) advancing to the tournament. All-session tickets are now available on the “Tickets” link on GoSeattleU.com or by calling the Redhawk ticket office at (206) 398-GOSU(4678)and must be picked up at will call on the first day of the tournament (11th & Jefferson gate). Single game tickets will be available for purchase at the gate only.
