Seattle University women’s basketball held their annual team banquet at the Space Needle on Thursday, Apr. 17 to celebrate the success of the 2013-14 season. Coaches, staff, family, and supporters in attendance were treated to a delicious meal, a video highlighting the season, and words from Coach Joan Bonvicini, Coach Kristen O’Neill, and athletics director Bill Hogan.

Bonvicini presented several awards to members of the team and highlighted the accomplishments of each team member during the 2013-14 season and their careers. Kristin Stoffel (Mill Creek, Wash.) received the award as the team Academic Leader while Makenna Clark (Lake Tapps, Wash.) was named Most Improved.

Sylvia Shephard (Alta Loma, Calif.) was honored for leading the team in assists and received the Team Defensive Award, as voted on by the team. Ashley Ward (Irvine, Calif.) was honored as the leading free-throw shooter and, along with her fellow seniors, received a commemorative basketball for passing 1000 career points. Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) received an award as the team’s leading scorer and rebounder and, as voted upon by her teammates, was named Team MVP.

Coach Bonvicini also recognized the staff, coaches, managers, and interns for their hard work throughout the season and gave a special thanks to the Key Club members in attendance.

Seattle U advanced to their second straight Western Athletic Conference tournament championship game in 2013-14 and was led by a senior trio who all passed 1000 career points. The Redhawks will look to build on recent success next season.
