The Seattle University men’s golf team shot its best round of the weekend, remaining in 10th place after Sunday’s final round of the El Macero Classic, co-hosted by UC Davis and Nevada at the El Macero Country Club.
Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) was the top Redhawk finisher after shooting 79 (+7) in the third round to end up in a tie for 34th place at 227 (+11). Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) posted his best round of the weekend, earning two birdies and no hole score higher than a bogey to shoot 74 (+2) for a three-round total of 230 (+14), landing in a tie for 45th place.
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) also shot 74 (+2) Sunday, earning two birdies in the round to end up in a tie for 51st place with a 54-hole score of 231 (+15). Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) shot 80 (+8) to finish the weekend in a tie for 57th place at 233 (+17), and Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) posted his best score of the tournament at 77 (+5), finishing in 67th place with a cumulative total of 243 (+27).
As a team, Seattle U combined for a third round score of 304 (+16) to finish in 10th place with a cumulative total of 915 (+51). UC Davis cruised to a 16-stroke victory in the team competition, led by Matt Hansen, whose 69 (-3) enabled him to come from behind and earn medalist honors by two strokes with a 54-hole score of 210 (-6).
The Seattle University men’s golf team now prepares for the Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships, to be held at Stallion Mountain Golf Club in Las Vegas, Nev., May 2-4.
