The Seattle University men’s golf team held steady in 10th place after Saturday’s second round of the El Macero Classic, co-hosted by UC Davis and Nevada at the El Macero Country Club.
Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) moved into the top 20 of the individual standings after a second-round 73 (+1) that featured three birdies and no single-hole score above bogey. He is now tied for 19th place with a 36-hole total of 148 (+4).
Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) struggled in the second round, shooting 80 (+8) to finish the day in a tie for 42nd place at 153 (+9). Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) also shot 80 in the second round for a two-day total of 156 (+12), currently in a tie for 51st place.
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) showed significant improvement from round one to round two, posting a second round score of 73 (+1) that included three birdies to move up into a tie for 53rd place at 157 (+13). Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) shot 85 (+13) in Saturday’s round to end the day in a tie for 67th place at 166 (+22).
As a team, Seattle U combined for a second round score of 306 (+18) to remain in 10th place with a cumulative total of 611 (+35). UC Davis blistered the course with a score of nine-under-par 279 to take an 18-stroke lead over Cal State Fullerton after two rounds, while Mark Anguiano of Cal State Fullerton shot even-par 72 to maintain a one-shot lead in the individual standings at 137 (-7).
