Redhawks to Host Nationally Ranked Washington, Utah Valley in WAC Home Opener: Seattle University softball (11-23, 0-3 WAC) faced New Mexico State to open Western Athletic Conference play last weekend, swept in all three games by the WAC Preseason favorite to win the title. This week, the Redhawks set their sights on No. 5 Washington (21-10, 2-6 Pac-12) on Tuesday, Apr. 1 before hosting Utah Valley (10-19, 3-0 WAC) on Friday-Saturday Apr. 4-5 in a three-game WAC series. Tickets to Washington Game: Tickets for the Washington game can be purchased at the gate for $5 for adults and $3 for juniors/seniors. Cash is preferred. Seating is first-come, first-served, with standing room only available. Chairs will be allowed to be brought into Logan Field.
Scouting No. 5 Washington (21-10, 2-6 Pac-12): Washington is in the top five in the country (as of Mar. 31), but is currently on a four-game losing streak coming into this week’s contest, losing six of their last seven. The Huskies’ last win was on Sunday, Mar. 23 vs. then-No. 2 UCLA, 10-2, in between a pair of losses to the Bruins before being swept by No. 2 Oregon this past weekend. Victoria Hayward leads UW at the plate among players with more than 10 hits with a .426 average, also adding 26 runs on 40 hits, five doubles, a home run, and 12 RBIs. In the circle, Bryana Walker leads the pitching staff with a 1.38 ERA and a 13-6 record.
Scouting Utah Valley (10-19, 3-0 WAC): The Wolverines swept Bakersfield to open conference play this past weekend and will face SU’s former WAC opponent Utah State on Tuesday, Apr. 1 before making the trip to Seattle. Utah Valley is led at the plate by Hailey Kofler (.317), who also adds 11 runs on 20 hits as well as six doubles, one triple, five home runs, and 15 RBIs. As a team, the Wolverines are outhit by their opponents, 220-169. Josi Summers leads the team in the circle with a 3.73 ERA, pitching five complete games and making 19 starts with a 6-10 record. UVU was chosen to finish third in the WAC in the preseason conference coaches poll behind NMSU and SU. Amanda Robinson and Summers were named to the Preseason All-Conference Team.
