Seattle University women’s basketball’s Kacie Sowell (Ventura, Calif.) has been named to the Women’s Basketball Coaches’ Association (WBCA) All-Region 7 Team, announced by the organization Tuesday. As an all-region honoree, Sowell is one of just 52 Division I nominees nationwide for the 2014 WBCA Division I Coaches’ All-America Team.
Sowell was a first team All-Western Athletic Conference honoree in 2013-14 after finishing third in the conference in rebounding (9.3) and field goal percentage (58.1), sixth in scoring (14.7) and 10th in blocks (0.63). On a national scale, at the end of the Redhawks' season, Sowell ranked 10th among active DI career leaders in field-goal percentage and 11th in the same category for the 2013-14 season.
As just the fourth player in program history to pass 1000 career rebounds and 12th to surpass 1000 career points, Sowell finishes her SU career holding the top three spots in Seattle U’s Division I single season scoring, scoring average, field goals made, rebounds, and rebound average. Earlier this season, she was named to the 2014 WBCA Allstate Good Works Team and was one of just 30 candidates for the Senior CLASS Award. She was also named the WAC Player of the Year at the end of her junior season and is a two-time First Team All-Conference and WAC All-Tournament team honoree.
Bakersfield’s Tyonna Outland joins Sowell in representing the WAC on the elite list. From the list of 52 honorees, the 10 member All-America Team will be announced on Saturday, Apr. 5 as part of the NCAA Women’s Final Four festivities in Nashville. To see the full list of honorees, click HERE.
