Paced by a top-20 performance from freshman Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.), the Seattle University women’s golf team finished in ninth place at the Red Rocks Invitational, hosted by Northern Arizona University over the weekend at the Oak Creek Country Club.
Huo collected three birdies and 22 pars over the 36-hole tournament, posting rounds of 75 (+3) and 77 (+5) for a two-day total of 152 (+8) to finish in a tie for 17th place. Juhee Lee (Manhattan, Ore.) struggled in Saturday’s first round with an 82 (+10), but she improved with a second round 73 (+1) to move up into a tie for 28th place at 155 (+11).
Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) shot 76 (+4) in the first round and 80 (+8) in the second round for a cumulative total of 156 (+12), finishing in a tie for 33rd place. Monica Keo (Kaneohe, Hawaii) posted identical scores of 79 (+7) in each round to end up in a tie for 43rd place at 158 (+14), and Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) improved from a first-round 81 (+9) to a second-round 78 (+6) for a final total of 159 (+15) to finish in a tie for 47th place.
As a team, Seattle University combined for scores of 311 (+23) and 307 (+19) for a two-day total of 618 (+42). Xavier University won the tournament by 14 strokes with a score of 588 (+12), while Jacquie LeMarr of Northern Arizona took medalist honors at three-under-par 141.
The Seattle University women’s golf team will head to Primm Valley, Nev., in two weeks for the Jackrabbit Invitational March 17-18.
