Seattle U to Make Single Game Roadtrip to Phoenix: Seattle University women’s basketball (13-12, 8-4 WAC) earned a weekend sweep last week, topping Utah Valley for the second time this year with a 69-65 win on Feb. 13, before defeating Bakersfield, 74-67, on Feb. 15. With the wins, the Redhawks have now won eight of their last nine games on their home floor. They hit the road this week, making their first trip to Phoenix to face WAC newcomer Grand Canyon (16-7, 5-5 WAC) at 7 p.m. MT/6 p.m. PT on Feb. 20. Scouting Grand Canyon (16-7, 5-5 WAC): The Lopes are undefeated at home this season and have won three of their last four games overall coming into this week’s contest. They are led in scoring by Kaitlyn Petersen, averaging 15.3 ppg, with three others also averaging in double figures - Judy Jones (13.5), Deanna Daniels (13.2), and Johnna Brown (11.0). Jones is averaging a team-high 8.5 rebounds per game. GCU allows just 61.1 ppg, leading the conference, while outscoring their opponents by an average 9.4 ppg, good for second in the league. They also lead the WAC in steals, averaging 9.09 per contest. Last time the Redhawks and Lopes faced, on Jan. 25 in Seattle, the Redhawks earned a dominant 89-68 win with Kacie Sowell contributing a team-high 19 points and Wilma Afunugo adding 14 points in the career high outing. Grand Canyon, in their first year of Division I reclassification, is not eligible for next month’s WAC Tournament or any postseason play.  

Clark Named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week: After helping lead Seattle U to a 2-0 record in Western Athletic Conference competition versus Utah Valley and Bakersfield, Makenna Clark was named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com for the week of Feb. 10-16. Over the weekend, Clark scored 24 points, including tying her career high with 14 vs. Utah Valley on Feb. 13.
