While most people were enjoying the President's Day holiday, the Seattle University Student-Athlete Advisory Council organized a cleanup project at Magnuson Park, involving close to 30 student-athletes from several different Redhawk teams.
The project came about as a partnership between Seattle U SAAC, spearheaded by SAAC vice-president Madison Davis, a member of the cross country and track and field team, and Green Seattle Partnership. Student-athletes helped reforest a formerly denuded and sterile navy air base by removing invasive plants such as Himalayan blackberry and spreading wood chip mulch.
This project continues one of SAAC's purposes of encouraging more involvement of the Seattle U student-athletes in campus and community projects. The council is now starting to organize the annual Swishes for Wishes charity basketball game between student leaders and faculty and staff members, scheduled for Wednesday, April 16, at 7 p.m. at the Connolly Center, with proceeds once again benefiting the Make-A-Wish Foundation.
