Six members of the 2013 starting lineup return for the Redhawks, as do six pitchers who started 53 of the team’s 54 games last season. Besides the 27 conference contests, Seattle U once again faces a challenging non-conference schedule, highlighted by road games at top-five school Oregon State and top-10 team Oregon. This weekend, Seattle U opens the season with a four-game series at UC Davis.
SCOUTING UC DAVIS: The Aggies posted a 19-37 overall record last year, including a 5-22 record within the Big West Conference for a 10th place finish in the league standings. Head coach Matt Vaughn enters his third year as the helm at his alma mater. The Aggies return six starting position players and three starting pitchers from the 2013 campaign. Junior Nick Lynch is the team’s leading returning hitter, batting .359 with two home runs and 28 runs batted in last year. Tino Lipson is also back for the Aggies after batting .339 in 2013. Evan Wolf, Harry Stanwyck, and Spencer Koopmans started 43 games combined for UC Davis last season. Max Cordy led the Aggies last year with six saves, but he is Sunday’s scheduled starter, so it is unknown who the Aggie closer will be this season.
