GAME #14: The second season for Seattle University begins just as the calendar turns to the new year, as the Redhawks host the Kansas City Kangaroos in Seattle U’s first contest in 2014. Having already equaled its win total from the entire 2012-13 campaign, the Redhawks now look to improve upon their conference mark from last season. Seattle U faces a rebuilding Kansas City program under a new coach.
SCOUTING UMKC: The Kangaroos come into Saturday’s game with a 4-9 overall record after opening its first WAC campaign with a 80-74 win at Idaho Thursday night. UMKC is scoring 69.0 points per game and giving up 79.8 points per contest. As a team, the Kangaroos are shooting 43.1 percent from the field, including 25.1 percent from behind the three-point line, and 62.1 percent from the free throw line. Martez Harrison leads the team with 15.7 points, 3.2 assists, and 2.0 steals per game, with Nelson Kirksey contributing 13.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.8 steals per game. Trinity Hall leads the team in rebounding with 7.4 boards per game to go along with 12.0 points per contest. This will be the first meeting all-time between Seattle U and UMKC, with the two teams not playing again until the final weekend of the conference season Thursday, March 6, at the Independence Events Center in Kansas City, Mo.
RETURN OF COACH’S SHOW: The Cameron Dollar Coach’s Show returns to 13 Coins and 770 AM KTTH Monday, Jan. 6, and will continue every Monday through the end of the season. The show is taped at 13 Coins from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. for broadcast on 770 AM KTTH later Monday night from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. All Seattle U basketball fans are invited to the Night Owl Lounge within the 13 Coins location at 125 Boren Avenue North to watch the live taping.
