Seattle University freshmen tennis player Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) and swimmer Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) have been selected as finalists for the Prep Male Tennis Player and Prep Female Swimmer of the Year awards, respectively, at the annual Oregon Sports Awards.
Leahy, a graduate of Jesuit High School in Portland, won back-to-back state doubles championships in 2011 and 2012 and advanced to the finals of the 2013 Oregon state tennis tournament in singles. Entering the dual match season in his first year at Seattle U, Leahy has posted a 2-2 record in singles and a 2-2 record in doubles, advancing to the quarterfinals in his flight at the Eastern Washington Classic in Cheney, Wash., in late September.
Wittenauer-Lee, also a graduate of Jesuit High School, qualified for the Oregon state championships four times, winning the state title in the 500 freestyle during her senior year. She helped the Jesuit High School Crusaders to three state championships as a team, picking up team MVP honors in her final season of high school. So far this season at Seattle U, she has set a Connolly Center Pool record in the 400 individual medley and has posted the squad’s best times in eight different events.
The Oregon Sports Awards take place Sunday, Feb. 9, at the Tiger Woods Center on the Nike World Headquarters from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. The show will be streamed live on OregonLive.com and OregonSportsAwards.com. The Oregon Sports Awards (OSA) Voting Panel, consisting of television, radio and print media and other respected sports professionals from around the state, determines the winners of most awards.
