Carlee Bock (Bellingham, Wash.) picked up an event win and Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) once again finished second in two individual events as the Seattle University women’s swim team competed against Air Force, North Dakota, and Northern Colorado Saturday for the second time in as many days at the U.S. Air Force Academy Natatorium.
Bock shaved 3/10ths of a second off her season best in the 100 backstroke, winning the event in 58.53 seconds. Bock also led off both Redhawk “A” relays, first teaming with Wittenauer-Lee, Jane Liggett (Portland, Ore.), and Melissa Randolf (Everett, Wash.) for a third place finish in the 200 medley relay in 1:49.90. She then started the 400 freestyle relay, joining Nicole Doi (Pleasanton, Calif.), Kristin Hoffman (Mercer Island, Wash.), and Stephanie Bayless (Spokane, Wash.) for the third-fastest time in the event at 3:39.20.
For the third time in the two weekend meets, Wittenauer-Lee finished second in an individual event by less than a second, touching the wall in the 200 individual medley just 23/100ths of a second behind the winner in a time of 2:12.44. She also finished second in the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:16.79.
Doi finished third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.95 seconds, while Liggett earned a fourth-place finish in the 100 butterfly in 59.88 seconds. Emma Foster (Clancy, Mont.) also earned a fourth-place finish, completing the 1000 freestyle with a time of 11:11.81, and Randolf finished in fifth place in the 50 freestyle in 25.19 seconds.
"Overall, we were a little flat over the past two days, and we missed some opportunities to improve our team scores," Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said. "We need to be a lot sharper heading down the stretch towards the conference meet."
As a team, the Redhawks lost to the host Falcons (147-73) as well as to North Dakota (121-99) and to Northern Colorado (152-69). Air Force swept the day with victories over North Dakota (131-90) and Northern Colorado (123-99), while Northern Colorado defeated North Dakota, 129-95.
Seattle University (1-11) will compete in its final official dual meet of the season next Saturday, Jan. 25, against Simon Fraser starting at 1 p.m. at the Connolly Center Pool. Before the meet, the seniors will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies.
