The women’s cross country and women’s soccer teams led the way for Seattle U with 12 representatives each. The Redhawks led the conference in honorees from women’s cross country, which included seniors Lauren Hammerle (Seattle, Wash.) and Hannah Mittelstaedt (Maple Valley, Wash.), juniors Meghan Arigo (San Luis Obispo, Calif.), Sophie Curatilo (Honolulu, Hawaii), Madison Davis (Camano Island, Wash.), Haley Kruell (Portland, Ore.), and Amy Tolentino (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.), and sophomores Taylor de Laveaga (Gilbert, Ariz.), Lindsay Frederick (Seattle, Wash.), Emily Hedberg (Phoenix, Ariz.), Rebecca Lassere (Boise, Idaho), and Elena Smith (Seattle, Wash.).
The WAC champion women’s soccer team tied Grand Canyon for most all-academic honorees with its 12 recipients: graduate student Heather Thomas (Woodinville, Wash.), seniors Ava Ames (Seattle, Wash.), Julia Besagno (Maple Valley, Wash.), Alyssa Campagna (Las Vegas, Nev.), Kat Prati (Moorpark, Calif.), and Jacqui Wallis (Lake Oswego, Ore.), juniors Kiana Kraft (Kent, Wash.) and Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah), and sophomores Kelly Beck (Tacoma, Wash.), Sarah Coluccio (Seattle, Wash.), Natasha Howe (Mission Viejo, Calif.), and Julia Moravec (Spokane, Wash.).
Six members of the men’s cross country team earned the academic recognition from the WAC: seniors Jeff Baklund (Auburn, Wash.), Ryan Dennison (Pacifica, Calif.), and Graham Kinzel-Grubbs (Portland, Ore.), junior Miles Hille (Woodinville, Wash.), and sophomores Gus Arroyo (Portland, Ore.) and Nathan McLaughlin (Puyallup, Wash.).
The Redhawk men’s soccer team, winners of the WAC regular season and tournament titles, placed five on the all-academic roll: seniors Renato Bandeira (Sammamish, Wash.) and Bobby Segal (Portland, Ore.), junior Michael Roberts (Issaquah, Wash.), and sophomores Hamza Haddadi (Shoreline, Wash.) and Jeff Rose (Carmichael, Calif.).
The Seattle U volleyball team placed three student-athletes on the WAC All-Academic squad: seniors Lani Beadle (Seattle, Wash.) and Sarah Jaeckel (Littleton, Colo.) as well as junior Alec Goodrie (Springfield, Ore.).
In order to be named to the WAC Fall All-Academic Team, student-athletes must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade point average, must have completed at least one academic year, must have spent at least one full year at the nominating institution, and must have participated in at least 50 percent of the team’s competitions during the season. In all, 206 student-athletes throughout the conference earned the academic honor, with Seattle U finishing second among member schools with its 38 honorees, just one behind Grand Canyon with 39 recipients.
Seattle University student-athletes combined for a 3.25 grade point average during the fall 2013 quarter, including 47 that earned President’s List recognition with a GPA of 3.9 or above and another 124 that made the Dean’s List for GPAs between 3.5 and 3.899.
