“Our 2014 class is going to help our program reach new heights,” said Powers. “We have been able to bring in a lot of talent and depth to put us in a very strong position to compete and win in the Western Athletic Conference.”
Catcher/middle infielder, L/R, Santa Ynez, Calif./Santa Ynez Valley Union High School
A three-year varsity softball letterwinner from Santa Ynez Valley Union High School, Sara Dominguez helped lead the Pirates to a 2011 CIF Playoff appearance. She was named 2013 All-Area Defensive Player of the Year, 2013 Los Padres League MVP and First-Team All-League, 2012 Second Team All-Area and First Team Los Padres League, and 2011 Los Padres League Honorable Mention. Dominguez was also named Team MVP in 2012 and 2013 and received the Scholar-Athlete Award from her high school in 2013. Competing with her most recent club team, she helped lead the NW Bullets to a South Valley Invitational victory in Medford, Ore. in 2013. She has also been named a TCWS Colorado Sparklers All-American (2012), TCWS Colorado Sparkles All-Star (2011, 2012), and a TCWS Park City All-American All-Star (2008-10). Outside of athletics, she has been a member of the National Honor Society in 2012 and 2013 and has earned a spot on the Honor Roll with highest honors from 2011-13.
Powers on Dominguez: “Sara brings a big arm and a solid left-handed bat. She is a great catcher but can play other positions as well. She will compete right away and we expect her to make a impact on both sides of the ball. She caught our eye a few years ago and has developed into a great player.”
Shortstop, L/R, Santa Maria, Calif./Ernest Righetti High School
A four-year varsity starter and academic letterwinner from Santa Maria, Calif., Breanna Timmons helped lead her team to the CIF Southern Section Division 3 Playoffs in 2011, 2012, and 2013, winning the championship in 2013. The Warriors finished Pac 7 League play with an undefeated record (12-0) in 2013 as Timmons was named Pac 7 All-League and All-Area in 2012 and 2013. She was named Most Improved in 2011 and named a Scholar-Athlete in 2011, 2012, and 2013. In 2012, she led the team in home runs and was second in the Pac 7 league and had the third highest slugging percentage in the league. In 2013, she ranked third in the Pac 7 league with an on-base percentage of .521. Outside of softball, Timmons also received the Freshman Volleyball Coaches Award in 2010 and the Junior Varsity Volleyball Best Offense Award in 2011.
Powers on Timmons: “Breanna is a tough competitor and is always getting after it in the infield. She has a great glove and extensive range in the middle infield. We look forward to seeing her in the top half of our lineup in coming years. She also has some pop to her bat to drive in runs. Another good left-handed batter was a big plus for this class.”
Shortstop, R/R, San Diego, Calif./Canyon Crest Academy
A two year varsity starter from Canyon Crest Academy in San Diego, Calif., Julia Bragado helped lead the Ravens to a playoff appearance in 2011. She was named Palomar League Honorable Mention (2013), Second Team All-League (2011), and San Diego Tribune All-Academic Team (2012, 2013). Bragado has also served as a three-year captain in volleyball, has competed for three years in varsity water polo, and competed for one year on the varsity inaugural sand volleyball team, where she was named First Team Sand Volleyball. She was named to the Future Select USA Team and competed with the San Diego Rowdies in club team play. Outside of softball, she has served as the Interact Volunteer Club vice president, a Junior Statesmen of America board member, and the Cooking Club vice president.
Powers on Bragado: “Julia was a player we found at our prospect camp this summer. She showed us her athleticism and ability to pick things up quickly and caught our eye late in the recruiting process. She can play middle infield and potentially outfield. She has a tremendous upside and we look forward to seeing her develop in coming years.”
MADELINE KRISTJANSON
Shortstop, R/R, Mountlake Terrace, Wash./Mountlake Terrace High School
A four-year varsity starter for softball, soccer, and basketball, earning a total of 12 varsity letters throughout her high school career, Madeline Kristjanson helped lead her softball team to a 2011 District Championship and State appearance. In 2012, the Hawks were District participants, and finished second in Districts and seventh in the state for Wesco 3A in 2013. She has been named Wesco 4A Second Team Outfield (2011), Wesco 4A First Team Utility (2012), Wesco 3A South First Team Utility (2013), Seattle Times First Team All-Area (2013), and Everett Herald All-Area Team (2013). Kristjanson was named Most Inspirational (2010), Defensive MVP (2011), and MVP (2012) for soccer and Hardest Worker (2010) and received the Leadership Award (2012) for basketball. She has served as team captain of her softball club teams from 2005-10 and 2012-13, playing with the NW LadySharks 18 Gold, NW LadySharks 16U, and Edmonds Starz 10U-14U. Outside of athletics, she is a TATU (Teens Against Tobacco Use) Member, a Link Crew Member and was voted Homecoming Queen in 2013.
Powers on Kristjanson: “Maddy has all the tools and is a great all-around athlete. We are looking forward to her competing on the left side of the infield at shortstop or third base. She brings a big bat and will definitely find a spot in the middle of the lineup in the future. Keeping her close to home was a big win for our program. She is one of the top players in our state and will hopefully lead to us keeping other top prospects close in the future.”
Pitcher, L/L, Roseville, Calif./Oakmont High School
A three-year varsity letterwinner from Oakmont High School, Savannah Loomis was named All-League in 2011 and 2012 and All-Metro in 2011. In 2011, she was named Pitcher of the Year at OHS and also competed with the All-American Sports Academy from 2011-13 and currently competes with the Nor Cal Patriots. Outside of athletics, she is a member of the Health Careers Academy and was a 3.5 GPA Award recipient. She also volunteers at Mercy San Juan Hospital in the NICU department and is CPR/First Aid Certified.
Powers on Loomis: “Savannah is a left-handed pitcher but she also swings the bat for power from the left side. She has the potential to make Logan Field a big home field advantage for our offense. We see her developing as a change of pace pitcher to compliment the rest of our staff for years to come. I've watched her grow the last few years and know she is going to step in and help our team reach our goals.”
