“As a freshman, Jonathan has been steadily improving and for him to get goals in back-to-back games on the road is great,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “He has just earned a starting spot over the last few weeks so this is exciting to see him get this award. I think he’s going to be a very strong player for us over the next three years.”
Massimino scored in back-to-back road matches for the Redhawks over the weekend, including the game-winning goal in the team’s 4-3 come-from-behind victory at Kansas City on Nov. 3. On Nov. 1, he scored the team’s only goal in the 1-1 draw at Houston Baptist. Over the weekend, he took five shots, three on goal. This season, Massimino has recorded three goals, two assists, eight points, 15 shots, eight on goal, and two game-winning goals.
Houston Baptist’s goalkeeper Kevin Suarez was named WAC Defensive Player of the Week after helping the Huskies tie Seattle U on Nov. 1 and earning his second shutout of the season, 5-0, vs. San Jose State on Nov. 3. He recorded a 0.45 GAA and a .833 save percentage over the two matches.
With one regular season match remaining, Seattle U (7-8-4, 6-0-3 WAC) has clinched the WAC Regular Season Title and is still the only undefeated team in league play.
The Redhawks host San Jose State on Saturday, Nov. 9 at 7 p.m. in their final regular season match as they will honor the 2013 senior class. As the WAC Regular Season Champions, SU receives a first round bye in the WAC Tournament and will open tournament play on Friday, Nov. 15 at 3 p.m. MT versus the winner of the No.4/No. 5 seed match.
